Continence Assessment

Luminous Care extends dedicated Continence Assessment services for NDIS participants across South Australia, with a primary goal of fostering independence. Incontinence, affecting over 5 million Australians of all ages, can be a challenging condition. However, our focus is on assessment and management to empower individuals towards regaining control and leading fulfilling lives. Our commitment to fostering independence and dignity is at the forefront of these services. By combining personalized assessments, expert assistance, and comprehensive reporting, we strive to minimize the impact of incontinence on daily life, enabling individuals to participate actively in their communities and enjoy a higher quality of life. At Luminous Care, our holistic approach ensures that every aspect of our Continence Services is geared towards the well-being and empowerment of our participants.

Types of Urinary Incontinence:

  1. Stress Incontinence:
  2. Leakage occurs when pressure is exerted on the bladder, such as during coughing, sneezing, laughing, exercising, or lifting heavy objects.
  3. Urge Incontinence:
  4. Characterized by an overwhelming urge to urinate immediately, often followed by urine loss before reaching a bathroom. Urgency and frequency can significantly impact daily life.
  5. Overflow Incontinence:
  6. Results from a blockage preventing normal urine flow out of the bladder. Common causes include prostate enlargement, partially closing off the urethra.
  7. Functional Incontinence:
  8. Occurs when an individual with normal bladder function faces difficulties reaching the toilet in time due to impaired mobility or mental confusion.
  9. Mixed Incontinence:
  10. A combination of symptoms from both stress and urge incontinence, where activities like coughing, sneezing, or exercising lead to leakage.
